Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to all exposed skin, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours, or more frequently if you are swimming or sweating. Make sure to cover often-missed spots like the ears, back of the neck, and tops of the feet.
Clothing can provide an excellent barrier against the sun's rays. Opt for lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, trouses, and wide-brimmed hats to shield your skin. Fabrics with a high UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating offer additional protection. Don’t forget sunglasses with UV protection to safeguard your eyes.
The sun's rays are strongest between 11 AM and 4 PM. During these hours, try to stay in the shade as much as possible. Use umbrellas, canopies, or natural shade from trees to protect yourself when outdoors. If you're at the beach, consider bringing a beach tent or cabana.
Tanning beds emit UV radiation similar to that of the sun and can increase the risk of skin damage and sunburn. Opt for sunless tanning products if you desire a tan, as they provide a safer alternative without the harmful UV exposure.
Staying hydrated is essential in preventing sunburn and heat-related illnesses. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help keep your skin healthy and resilient against sun damage. Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate your body.
